Translation

Caraid received three play commissions from the Foundation for Jewish Culture for her translations of classics Yiddish plays by Sholem Asch and David Pinski.  Her translation of Sholem Asch's god of vengeance "set Show World aflame" according to the Village Voice in 1999. 

Caraid has translated plays, journals, letters, articles, postcards and other documents for New York University, The Thomashefsky Foundation, The Vilna Project, Inc., Beit Jacob Synagogue, Martin Boris's biography of Maurice Schwartz and for many other artists, individuals and institutions. 

She has consulted on Yiddish theater, culture and literature for films, documentaries, books, websites, festivals and theatrical productions since 1997.  As an artist, she has  produced several Yiddish plays in her English translations as well as hosting a series of radio shows about the Yiddish theater for The Next Hour on WBAI, 99.5 FM

As an archivist, she has identified and saved several Yiddish theater collections arranging for their donation and preservation to major institutions and libraries.  She spent a decade interviewing in both Yiddish and English the last living stars of the Yiddish theater.
